What's an ANC?
The Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, or ANC, is a non-partisan, neighborhood body made up of locally elected representatives. Washington DC is divided into 40 districts and each ANC is made up of of 2-12 commissioners who make decisions about a broad range of issues in the community including transportation, planning and zone, and alcohol and beverage licenses. Each ANC commissioner is elected for a two-year term and represents a distinct segment of the ANC, called a Single Member District, or SMD. Each Commissioner represents about 2,000 residents of that SMD.
To get involved in your ANC, you can attend ANC meetings, learn more about your ANC, and make your voice heard throughout your community. Check out the full schedule of upcoming ANC 6B meetings here.
